A Botox® (Botulinum Toxin) Cosmetic treatment
is a simple, non-surgical procedure to treat the glabellar frown
lines (wrinkles between the eyebrows), wrinkles in upper forehead,
upper lip and crow’s feet. One ten-minute treatment a few tiny injections
relax the muscles that cause those lines to form. Botox® Cosmetic
has been FDA approved for the treatment of the glabellar frown lines,
though is not yet approved for treatment in forehead, upper lip
and crow’s feet wrinkles.

By using small doses injected directly into a specific
muscle, only the action of that specific muscle will be paralyzed.
This very simple therapy produces relaxation of the underlying muscle
therefore eliminating the appearance of stern, unhappy looks, which
is produced by the gathering of tissue between the upper eyebrows
into a fold.
The weakening of the muscle begins in a few days, but maximal effect
may take as much as two weeks to achieve. The effects if Botox®
last from 3 to 6 months, then the injection must be repeated.

Botox® has also
been found to be beneficial for patients who have a problem with
increased sweating. This has been found to be an extremely safe
and effective treatment to stop seating in areas such as the palms
and underarms for as long as twelve months in some patients. The
emotional aspect of increased sweating is large and Botox® has really
managed to help treat this problem in patients.
Botox® can also be used in patients who suffer
from migraine tension headaches. The excessive contraction of the
muscled of the forehead can dramatically improve by relaxing the
underlying muscles with these tiny injections.
